Club Update from Lon Grundy

Happy October! We hope everyone had a wonderful summer. It has certainly been active at The Club and we have been busy working on some exciting projects that will enhance your experience as a Member.

Last month our General Manager, Todd Keefer, decided to explore a wonderful career opportunity in Los Angeles and we have been working hard to recruit our next General Manager at PGA WEST Private. It is our goal to have the right person identified and in place by the end of the year. In the meantime, we want to recognize the tremendous efforts by the Leadership Team of The Club to get us ready for this renovation and the kickoff of our 29th season at PGA WEST! We anticipate the opening of our renovated Clubhouse by February of next year and we could not be more excited about it. Pardon our dust during the renovations, but trust us, it will be worth it! Your Private Clubhouse Staff created a time capsule that will be buried within the walls of the Private Clubhouse. 100 years from now, Members will have a glimpse of what the first 29 years at PGA WEST were like. The Golf Course Maintenance Teams are currently prepping the courses with cool season grasses to have us ready for play on all three Private Courses in November. The Golf Operations Team is working to get the newly renovated Golf Shop open downstairs for convenient access and check-in by December. The Membership Services Team has bent over backwards to source alternate locations within PGA WEST and La Quinta Resort to host the many events that will take place between November and February. Our culinary team will be working with the team at Ernie’s Bar & Grill to service our Member events from the ballroom of the Tournament Clubhouse while we work to complete the renovations to our new grill and dining room upstairs at the Private Clubhouse. In addition to the services available at Ernie’s, we will also be opening our newly renovated Snack Bar/Bistro and patio downstairs near the new Golf Shop. The lower level of the Private Clubhouse will come together first and we will handle all club operations from there while the renovation crews continue to work on the upper level of the clubhouse. We are very active in monitoring the progress of the clubhouse renovation and we are all very excited to present a clubhouse experience that you so truly deserve. We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the renovation process as we work to provide services for today and establish the groundwork for a successful opening of the club by February of 2015.

In addition to the recruitment efforts for a new General Manager, we are also focused on leadership positions for Food & Beverage and Health & Fitness. We understand the importance of club programming and offerings outside of golf and our new clubhouse will certainly provide us with a platform to create a new Member experience. Our Membership Sales Team could not be more excited as they will have a beautiful clubhouse to aid them in recruiting new Members to The Club.

From a real estate perspective, there are currently close to 1,000 residential lots available for new home construction in close proximity to PGA WEST and the future opportunities for our Club looks strong. We also just opened a new PGA WEST Discovery Center at the Tournament Clubhouse that will be a great place to learn about the lifestyle opportunities available in our community. The Discovery Center will focus on both new and resale Real Estate along with Membership offerings that will enhance our presence and support in attracting new residents and Members.

In January, we will host the PGA TOUR for The Humana Challenge and it will be our final year to host the event at this location. Outside of the clubhouse, the event will operate similar to previous years but, due to the club renovations, there will not be any event activities within the Private Clubhouse. We are working to have locker rooms available for the players, but will not be able to provide clubhouse access beyond the locker rooms as we do not want to cause any renovation delays. The clubhouse renovation is our top priority and we must protect the renovation schedule and activity so we can stay on track to present our new clubhouse shortly after the conclusion of The Humana Challenge. We are confident that we will be able to assist them in producing a quality event as we have in the past and we look forward to celebrating a successful tournament for our final year at PGA WEST Private.

As the Executive Director, overseeing all of PGA WEST allows me to keep an active pulse on so many facets of our business unit on behalf of Hilton and our ownership group. What I am proud to witness each day is the commitment and dedication of our front line employees and managers that are responsible for developing the relationships and delivering the experience to more than 1,500 Members. I can tell you that there is an infectious spirit of excitement in the air and everyone is ready to get back to work doing what they truly love which is serving you. The future of PGA WEST looks bright and we would like to thank you for your continued support of The Club.
