PGA WEST 2013 Overseed Set to Begin
Schedule Builds on Success of 2012 Overseed

The following message is written and sent jointly by the Advisory Board of Governors and Club Management. These messages will describe activities and initiatives the Club and ABG are working on together to improve the PGA WEST Member experience. This note below is from Todd Keefer, Private Clubhouse General Manager, and Dave Balducci, ABG President.
Dear PGA WEST Members,
As many of you plan your return to PGA WEST for the upcoming season, we want to remind you about the 2013 overseed schedule, which gets underway next week. Understanding Course closures and re-openings should help you plan your travel, and your autumn golf in the desert.
This note will provide details of our upcoming overseed schedule, as well as some tips to maximize your Member experience as the Courses gradually re-open for the new season.
Last Year’s Course Conditions Were the Best in Years
First, a few thoughts about the overseed process. Last year’s overseed was our most successful in years, resulting in the best season-long Course conditions at PGA WEST in recent memory. We were fortunate to have cooperative weather during our overseed; in addition, we strategically moved the Tom Weiskopf Private overseed later than in previous years, avoiding the severe heat that occasionally made the overseed less than successful.
This year, we will continue with the same strategy, and the Weiskopf will be the first to close on September 30. It will re-open four weeks later, on October 28. The full overseed schedule is at the bottom of this note.
All three Private Courses will be closed from October 14 to October 27. During this time, PGA WEST tee times will be available on the Greg Norman Course, as it will remain open until October 29 to accommodate Member play. With access to six Courses, PGA WEST is the only Club in The Valley able to keep at least one Course open for Member play during the overseed season. This two-week period (October 14 to 27) with one Course available is a significant improvement from last year, when the one Course availability lasted three weeks.
We believe this strategy of a limited time in October without a Private Course is the right approach, as it was last year. Our intent, and top priority, is to ensure optimal Course conditions all season long.
As many of you may recall, we were able to accommodate tee time demand in previous years by sending some Members to the La Quinta Resort’s Mountain and Dunes Courses. Unfortunately, because of the damage caused by our recent Valley storm, the Mountain and Dunes Courses are still undergoing extensive repairs and will not be available this year.
All of the PGA WEST Courses will be “cart path only” for three to four weeks after they are re-opened. Those with current handicap flags will be allowed limited access to the re-opened Courses, according to our handicap flag policies.
Also, if you are a walker, you are welcome to take your push cart directly onto the Courses when the ropes are up. This is a great way to get some exercise, and bypass the ropes, which protect the young grass from being damaged by the continual wear and tear of riding golf carts.

We Appreciate Your Patience During Overseed
Managing the overseed process at a Club like PGA WEST with six Championship Courses is a complex process. Thanks to Director of Agronomy Dean Miller and his team, we believe we’ve now got a winning formula to overseed in a way that optimizes Course playing conditions all season long, while minimizing disruption to Members during the overseed.
Thank you, in advance, for your patience during our upcoming overseed. In future e-mails, we will communicate The Club’s hours of operation and available Member services during our overseed.
We look forward to seeing you throughout the 2013-14 season. If you have any questions, Click Here
See you around The Club.
